STCW Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting – Updating

The aim of the mandatory STCW course is to give all those seeking updating training certification for fire prevention and fire fighting the essential education and training set out in Table A VI/1-2 of the STCW Code:

Function: Fire prevention and fire fighting.

  • Competence: Minimise the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire.
  • Fight and extinguish fires.

Course Duration: 1 day practical course.

Notes:
Learners must be fit enough to participate in all aspects of the training, in particular, learners must be aware of the practical aspects of the training and the physically demanding nature of some of the exercises involving live fires and the use of breathing apparatus.
If there is any doubt as to an individuals ability to participate in such exercises an appropriate risk assessment should be carried out to determine what is required to proceed in a safe manner. UK ENG1 medical certificate or equivalent, must be provided as an indicator of fitness prior to course commencement.
